When looking for Custom Minifigures to feature on our site, one person’s minifigs keep catching our eye, so we were delighted when Sean-Michael Griffin said he would like to be interviewed:
First of all thanks for doing this interview as well as others I love how involved this blog is getting in the community!
1. How did you first get into custom minifigs?
I think almost every customizer owes a debt of gratitude whether they like it or not to the clone wars, I started by sharpie-ing clones (is that even a word?). Then I found brickarms and flickr after my first Brickcon and was inspired by the works of many people, Pedro was a big one, for the longest time I posted “purist” minifigs, but a friend, Crazy Brick got me into painting and slowly I got better until I got where I’m at and personally I think I’m a long way till I even make one custom as good as Pedro’s or Pecovam’s , I also owe a debt of gratitude to the world of Warhammer 40K which helped me a lot in my painting skill!
2. Where do you get your ideas and inspiration from?
Most of my ideas come from other customizers, Games and imagination. A recent inspiration is Crysis 2, the game is filled with medium armored human juggernauts with insane speed and agility. My recent apoc works where heavily inspired by Chef and others.
3. Are there any customizers that you look up to, or inspire you?
Plenty! To name a few the works of Bansheeshe, Mclovin, Chef, Pecovam, Pedro, you name them there probably an inspiration all of their work never ceases to amaze me.
4. What do you think of the Lego Collectors series?
I love it! And I’m sure LEGO does to, as oppose to others I kinda like not knowing what I’m gonna get, but that still doesn’t stop me from holding up the line feeling every bag! The new pieces are great and along with LEGO Universe which had a lot of creative pieces as well, I think LEGO is really trying to tell the customizers that they are supported and possibly brewing newer customizers waiting to blossom 🙂
5. Are you currently on any new projects?
Well, I plan on dipping my feat into the world of Gears of War and Battlefield three and the Modern Ware fare titles. I really liked doing the spetsnaz for his color , it was a nice change to the dark blandness that is apoc. I also want to try some more camo figures, as well as finishing the MOC for Commander Wolffe’s alternate Russia Christmas contest!
Once again thanks for doing all these interviews really puts a spot light on the community here 🙂
